You can expect a check-up at Thorpe Lea Dental to take around an hour, depending on what you need.
1. Meet and greet When you arrive, you’ll be taken into your treatment room and introduced to your dental nurse. The dentist will have already reviewed your patient forms or previous notes and will have a chat with you about any changes in your oral health, and the reason for your visit.
2. Teeth and gum assessment Your dentist will perform a thorough assessment of your teeth looking for signs of any decay and existing restorations, and a basic gum check to gauge if you need a more in-depth periodontal exam. We’ll also take a full oral digital scan and photos if necessary.
3. X-Rays or screening Sometimes we’ll perform an oral cancer screening at your dental check-ups as a precaution, but there’s usually nothing to worry about. We’re looking for anything unusual such as swelling, irritation that doesn’t go away naturally, or abnormal lumps and bumps.
4. Advice and treatment plan Sometimes a check-up will reveal some dental issues that might need to be addressed. If you need any further treatment your dentist will put together a treatment plan including cost estimates and timeframe. Otherwise, you’re all set until your next routine check-up!

Yes, you can. All our dentists are experienced and provide an extremely high standard of care, but if there’s a particular person you’d prefer, our team will do our best to make sure your needs are met (and exceeded).
A dental hygiene appointment is great for keeping your gums healthy and giving your teeth a thorough, deep clean. Our dental hygienist will assess the health of your gums and check for plaque build-up and gum disease, and usually carry out a deep clean and scale to remove plaque, and end the appointment with a polish.
