Since I was a young child I have had a major phobia with dentists, basically I cannot stand them. My mother used to drag me to the dentist kicking and screaming. However, despite my phobia, I have continued with dental checks and treatment for my entire adult life as I acknowledge the importance of keeping my full set of teeth. I have been a patient at Thorpe Lea Dental Practice since 2005 until current. In fact, I have known some of the staff for over 12 years. The Staff are fantastic, on first name terms, welcoming and sympathetic to my phobia. They put up with my nervous composure the minute I enter the waiting room making me feel relaxed ready to face my dental punishment. They are also extremely flexible when it comes to me changing my appointments last minute due my work commitments. As for my dentist, I will only see the same one, currently James. I will change appointments to suit myself if James is not available. James is very understanding of my phobia and regularly accepts my banter and swearing. I would not see anyone else as I have now developed a lasting trust. Overall, Thorpe Lea Dental is a wonderful practice with excellent staff offering a first class, professional service. I cannot recommend them highly enough.
I recently had the pleasure of visiting Colin at Thorpe Lea and I must say it was the most comfortable and stress-free dental experience I have ever had. As an anxious patient, I was worried about the procedure. However, Colin’s calm and reassuring demeanour immediately put me at ease. He took the time to listen to my concerns and made sure I was comfortable throughout the entire procedure. His gentle approach and patience were truly appreciated, and I felt completely relaxed and in good hands. I also appreciate his attention to detail is and his thorough explanation of the procedure. Colin went above and beyond to ensure that I had a positive experience, and I couldn't be more grateful. A year ago, I broke a filling, during lockdown. I hadn’t seen a dentist for years. Because I was terrified. I had several bad experiences both as a child and in the armed services. This time though I thought I have to do something about it. After reading all the excellent reviews I decided to try Colin. The best way to illustrate the difference he has made is to tell you on my first visit nearly a year ago I broke in half the stress toy he gave me to help calm me. Today on my latest visit for two fillings (a prospect that would have filled me with terror a short time ago) I actually fell asleep during the procedure. Colin and his team have turned my view of dentist around, I no longer fear treatment and the reconstruction work he has done has given me a new confidence.
Every aspect of my extensive dental treatment has been professional, the end result is that I have the confidence to smile. I had avoided regular check ups for a few years, so Colin Houston had to improve my gum & oral health first to ensure the work undertaken would have long lasting results. Old crowns were replaced, bridge work closed gaps where teeth had been lost, also re-alignment to straighten upper & lower teeth. I saw it as a long term investment. I cannot speak highly enough of Colin & his team for their professionalism and encouragement and would recommend them to anyone who has stopped smiling, or is nervous of dentists, there is only a positive outcome to look forward to.
If only you could give more than 5*, this practice is definitely worth 10+*. I came to the practice about 5 years ago after a previous terrible experience at another practice leaving me extremely anxious. I saw Colin (absolutely amazing) and his nurse who also was fantastic. Everyone has made me feel continuously comfortable and made me no longer anxious. I’ve had all my fillings replaced, even had root canal therapy and now in Invisalign(all of which I NEVER thought I would do) I think it also helps seeing only Colin, which is so rare in other practices, usually seeing a mixture of different dentists every time. Would recommend to EVERYONE! Thank you so much guys!😄
I had to call when coming back from holiday on a Sunday about an emergency abscess and (unlike my usual dental experiences) it was absolutely amazing. After seeing a photo taken on my mobile phone, Colin was able to diagnose and write up a prescription while still in the car travelling - and even directed me to a local pharmacy where I could get it filled. By the same evening, the pain was 90% gone and a day later almost non-existent (I had been suffering for 48 hours before getting to the extreme point where I needed to call). Wish I could award more stars, or nominate this guy for his fantastic customer service! Highly recommended.

I’m a new patient here and a total nervous wreck! I had an initial check-up then an appointment for crown work on Monday. I was put completely at ease... right from meeting the receptionist to my appointment with James. The receptionist is fabulous and was very reassuring. She took the time to make sure I was ok and explained all the appointments I needed after my check-up. James also took the time to listen to my worries and explained everything in detail. I felt at ease and he and his assistant were brilliant.
I trust my dentist when receiving treatment - as a sometimes anxious patient - this is important to me. The practice hygienist is considerate and thorough plus the nursing staff are competent and professional. There appears to be a culture of continual professional reflection and improvement in terms of staff training, customer care and importantly investment in modern equipment and dental practices and procedures. I feel the practice is always looking forward and not relying on previous achievements.
I've been going to Colin for the last few years having been petrified of dentists after some unfortunate experiences. I've had extensive work done and Colin is friendly and makes me feel at ease every time. He explains everything to me and checks at every stage of the dental surgery that I 'm ok. I feel relaxed with him and I know that it’s worth every penny. Plus, he also has DVD glasses and headphones to take my mind off the procedure. They also offer a great dental plan. Highly recommended!
I had a great experience with James and his nurse! From the moment I walked in the door, I was greeted warmly by Laura on reception. James was incredibly skilled and made me feel comfortable throughout the entire procedure. They took the time to explain everything to me and answer all my questions, which I really appreciated. I'm of the era where we was scared of going to the dentist. I'm a huge wimp but Thorpe Lea’s dentist have helped me immensely. They always make me feel relaxed and at ease and understand that I'm anxious and me with respect and dignity. I've been with the practice since it has opened and I wouldn't go anywhere else now. My 12 year old son is also at the surgery and has been since birth and can't understand why anyone would be scared of the dentist. That says it all really.
Very caring and understanding. All my needs understood and everything explained clearly. For the first time I’m completely happy with everything. Previous dentists were not very good but this place definitely outshines all the previous ones I’ve been to. Am going to stick with this place From the initial phone call to the appointment and till I left the service was amazing. Always has been. I’ve had 3 different dentist practicians and these are by far the best in everything
I am a little anxious when it comes to the dentist. The receptionist was welcoming and professional. James Gartshore was friendly and reassuring he explained everything calmly and confidently. He has such a pleasant manner that it put me at ease straight away. The service received was to an outstanding level and I felt time was taken to ensure I was comfortable and informed at all times. Very pleased with the service today and have already recommended the practise to others.
Amazing dentist, both Colin and James are excellent. I have always had nothing but the best advice and treatment. The cleanliness at Thorpe Lea is exceptional and I have always felt safe with the knowledge that the surgery is spotless. Thorpe Lea has been my dental surgery for years and now I’m moving from the area I will miss it enormously. If I can’t find a dentist I like, I might be making the 4 hour journey to see Colin and James. Highly recommend Thorpe Lea.
In the past i have not had great experiences with dentists which made my visits to them minimal. Since becoming a patient at Thorpe lea dental for over 10 years my experiences have been nothing more then warm friendly, reassuring and PAIN FREE! This is mostly down to James who takes his time to ensure he carries all the above out on each visit with myself and my 2 daughters. I would absolutely recommend them especially if you are nervous patient like i was.
This was my first post-lockdown dentist visit. The premises was clean and tidy, and I never felt at any undue risk from COVID. As usual, my appointment was on time and James the dentist was super friendly and with a good way of explaining things to the lay person. I also take my little ones (4 and 2 years old) to this dentist and have always found it a good experience. And I am glad to be back to my normal check ups after missing one in lockdown!
Colin Houston and his team are friendly, helpful and efficient. I had a lot of treatment when I joined practise after years of neglect, which was completed painlessly. Since then all check ups and hygienist visits with Libby have been prompt and kept my teeth and gums in good order. If only it was on the NHS, but I guess then it might not be so thorough. Thank you.

The best dental surgery I have been to. Spotlessly clean, very professional and my dentist James puts me at ease whenever I visit. Air purifying machines in every room and follow strict Covid protocols. If you are lucky enough to sign on with them they will look after you.
Can not recommend Colin and the team highly enough. Colin has been my dentist my whole life and I travel from London for my visits. They are professional and genuinely nice people, and I was especially impressed with the measures they’ve brought in following the pandemic

An excellent service. Our dentist James was incredibly patient with my 2 year old son, who was upset at being there but had a thorough check up. He then diligently answered the questions I had about my own care. Would recommend as a great dentist for a family.

I have been a patient for some years. It’s an exceptional practice and the dentist is kind, patient and highly competent. The environment is super clean and very modern. We have moved 3 hours away but would not change dentist!
