Dental implant treatment is a minor surgical procedure that is carried out under local anaesthetic and has been performed for many years, with an excellent success rate.
An implant comes in two parts and often across several appointments. The first is an artificial root made from ultra-pure titanium that replaces the root of a missing tooth. It can be placed in either the upper or lower jaw and in time will bond with the jawbone. The second part is the restoration or false tooth that’s attached to the dental implant root – we normally wait around three to six months to allow full implant healing before we can place a new tooth.
For those missing one tooth, a crown will be created to perfectly match your existing teeth. If you have a full set of dentures, this can be attached to four or six dental implant roots, which means you don’t need one implant root for every missing tooth you have.

After your free remote consultation, we will book your appointment to come in practice. We'll send you a welcome pack with new patient forms via email or post, three days before your visit. This pack includes all the necessary details to prepare for your first in-practice visit, which will take around 1.5 hours.
On your arrival, you’ll be warmly welcomed by Dr. Colin and our dedicated team. We’ll review your medical history and discuss your oral health habits, helping us understand your dental needs and any specific concerns you may have.
Dr. Colin will conduct a thorough examination, focusing on your teeth and gums. This includes checking for decay and existing restorations, alongside a basic gum check. We'll also take a full oral digital scan and intra-oral photos to get a comprehensive view of your oral health.
In this step, we delve deeper into your dental health. Dr. Colin will combine the findings from the initial examination with digital smile photos and recommend further tests if needed. If a dental implant is considered, you’ll be referred for a CBCT scan to assess bone density and structure, helping us determine if bone grafting is necessary.
Once the CBCT scan results are in, Dr. Colin will review them to finalise your treatment plan. We’ll invite you back to discuss the plan, including the necessity of any preparatory treatments like bone grafting. At this stage, we'll use your digital scan to create a guided surgical stent, ensuring precise implant placement.
With the preparation complete, the implant placement is scheduled. Dr. Colin will place the implant and temporary restoration. Following the procedure, we’ll monitor your healing progress with regular check-ups to ensure everything is on track.
After the implant has healed, we move to the restoration phase. Depending on your treatment plan, this could involve fitting a crown, bridge, or denture. We’ll take another digital scan to ensure a perfect fit for your new restoration. In as little as two weeks later, we’ll fit the restoration, followed by a final review appointment to confirm that you’re delighted with your new smile.
