Find out moreToothache is so notorious it even has its own national awareness day – this Sunday is Toothache Day! This annual day is all about building awareness and helping people learn how to avoid the pain in the first place or deal with it when it occurs.
It’s safe to say, toothaches are never pleasant and notreally something to celebrate.
It can happen anytime and if left untreated, they can keepyou up at night and prevent you from eating, traveling, or talking. Toothacheis a horribly painful experience, there’s literally no escape.
However, everyone can take steps to prevent toothaches in the first place and ensure healthy teeth by regularly visiting the dentist and avoiding sugary foods.
Routine dental care is an important first step. Avoiding sugary foods and acidic drinks and daily brushing and flossing are important, too. Even so, you can still develop cavities, have accidents that break or chip at tooth or find yourselves with an infection. Teeth can also become sensitive to heat or cold.
Treating a toothache in the short term may be simply handled by over-the-counter treatments, but seeing a dentist may still be required to resolve the issue. Some toothaches are so severe as to require emergency intervention, so treating the early signs of a mild toothache is very important.
Toothache can be caused due to various reasons. It could be from losing a filling or due to periodontal or gum disease. Breaking of tooth while eating or clenching and grinding could also be the cause for it. It can be really hard to point out the exact tooth which is affected and it may feel as if all the pain is in your jaw or even feel more like earache.
Unfortunately, when experiencing pain some people will still avoid the obvious thing to do, which is to visit the dentist. Toothache will rarely get better on its own, in fact it will probably get worse and at the most inconvenient time. If neglected, it can lead to a dental abscess, which is really unpleasant.
While serious dental issues must be handled by a professional before the damage is irreversible , there is a lot that you can do at home to take care of your own teeth and prevent any serious problems.
We would like to use this year’s National Toothache Day toencourage everyone to take matters into their own hands at first in order toimprove their own oral health and to prevent issues, and seeking expert helpwhen they need it.
