Sugar free chewing gum is just like regular chewing gum; however, it does not contain any sugar.
Sweeteners are used instead to flavour the gum, which means it does not cause tooth decay. If you are unable to brush or use mouthwash in-between meals, sugar free chewing gum is a good option instead.
After we have eaten, our teeth are most at risk of acid attacks. Chewing sugar free gum for 20 minutes after a meal stimulates saliva production in your mouth- saliva is the mouth’s natural defence against acid! Chewing gum can also help if you notice your mouth is dry, or you have bad breath.
Remember- chewing gum is not a replacement for brushing your teeth- you still need to brush your teeth twice a day with a fluoride toothpaste, and use flosses or brushes in-between the teeth once a day.
