Taking care of your oral health

At Thorpe Lea Dental, we believe that prevention and early treatment are the keys to keeping your family’s oral health in tip-top shape for a lifetime.

Regular dental check-ups allow us to keep track of your oral health, pick up any damage or decay before it needs more extensive treatment, and reinforce good oral hygiene habits during visits.

Your dental check-up includes

  • Assessment of teeth and gum health
  • Digital X-rays or photos where required
  • Screening for mouth cancer or disease
  • Oral hygiene recommendations
  • Personalised treatment plan

Your dental check-up

You can expect a check-up at Thorpe Lea Dental to take around an hour, depending on what you need.

  • Meet and greet:
When you arrive, you’ll be taken into your treatment room and introduced to your dental nurse. The dentist will have already reviewed your patient forms or previous notes and will have a chat with you about any changes in your oral health and the reason for your visit.
  • Teeth and gum assessment:
Your dentist will perform a thorough assessment of your teeth, looking for signs of decay and existing restorations, and a basic gum check to gauge if you need a more in-depth periodontal exam. We’ll also take a full oral digital scan and photos if necessary.
  • X-rays or screening:
We’ll perform an oral cancer screening at your dental check-ups as a precaution, but there’s usually nothing to worry about. We’re looking for anything unusual, such as swelling, irritation that doesn’t go away naturally, or abnormal lumps and bumps.
  • Advice and treatment plan:
Sometimes a check-up will reveal some dental issues that might need to be addressed. If you need any further treatment, your dentist will put together a treatment plan, including cost estimates and a timeframe. Otherwise, you’re all set until your next routine check-up!

Clean teeth and gums

We prefer to prevent problems from occurring rather than simply fixing things when they go wrong, so we recommend regular dental hygiene treatments to keep your teeth and gums clean, reduce the buildup of plaque and bacteria, and prevent tooth decay.

Fillings

Sometimes at a dental check-up we’ll discover decay or a cavity that needs to be treated with a small filling—a straightforward, comfortable procedure using a local anaesthetic.

Your dentist will go through your options before the treatment, as well as your filling options.

White dental crowns

Are you unhappy with your discoloured, crooked, or uneven teeth?

Porcelain crowns are carefully crafted to look natural and blend in with the rest of your teeth. The aesthetically superior crowns preferred by our Thorpe Lea dentists will not lead to dark metallic lines around your gums, leaving you with a beautiful smile you will feel confident in showing off.

Early dental care

Effective dental care starts early with thorough brushing techniques and oral health habits, so we encourage families to bring children in as soon as their first tooth appears and return for regular check-ups to help maintain long-term dental health.

Why are regular dental check-ups important?

Dental check-ups allow us to monitor your oral health, identify problems like cavities or gum disease early, and provide preventive care to avoid more extensive treatments later.
