…and too anxious to go to another dentist. I got to the point that the crowns and my teeth underneath were moving and cracking constantly when I ate and I was always so worried they would fall out. I used to spend hours everyday worrying about my teeth and as I hated the look of them, I’d neglected my oral hygiene and had severe periodontal disease. A colleague at work recommended Colin at Thorpe Lea dental. It took me an age to pluck up the courage to make an appointment. When I walked in to Colin’s office he handed me a mirror and asked me what I would change about my smile. I couldn’t look in the mirror I hadn’t looked at my teeth for years by then. I burst in to tears. Colin was honest with me about the condition of my gums and the prognosis for my front bottom crowned teeth I had no bone left to support them and they had to go. I was in my early 40s and the thought of no teeth and limited options on replacements due to my bone loss was initially really scary. Colin came up with a plan to stabilise my other teeth the crowns were removed and replaced with a temporary denture and later a fixed bridge. After thorough cleaning work my teeth were secure again and I could start to look in the mirror. The hours a day spent worrying about my teeth were over. I actually now didn’t dread going to the dentist. Colin was always honest with me in terms of setting my expectations that I would always have compromises but I love my teeth now compared to what I had before and I smile and laugh without hiding behind my hand. I cannot recommend this practice highly enough. If you’re a nervous patient or even if you have like me been guilty in the past of neglecting your oral hygiene they will guide you through without judgement. I’ve had a number of procedures done by Colin and none of them have been painful. All the other staff are lovely too and always make you feel so welcome.”

…lack of good dental advice and inadequate explanations I had been receiving over and particularly feeling that Dentists churned over patients in haste to increase their number of UDA's they achieved in a day instead of providing good quality dental care. I was really impressed with the treatment I received at Thorpe Lea by Dr Colin Houston for a number of reasons: (1) He backed up any findings /concerns with adequate explanations that helped me understand what I can do to improve my dental care and why (2) he presented less profitable options by putting my dental health first (3) he made himself available out of hours for any treatment I was receiving that he anticipated further questions on (outside of the appointment itself). I originally arrived to Thorpe Lea lacking confidence in my smile owing to some gaps between my teeth left by prior orthodontic treatment; I am incredibly happy with the resin bonding work I've received and more importantly I am no longer suppressing my smile. The process has taken longer than anticipated however my teeth are in better health than ever before. I could hardly remember what he looked like and the appointments were pretty rushed. 12 months ago this all changed. Having gone through extensive restorative treatment (and writing this now make me angry once again with my previous dentist) to get to a dentally fit and healthy state I now know how to look after my teeth to prevent future problems. The reason that it is different at Thorpe Lea is simply that Colin absolutely and completely cares about my current and future dental health. Nothing else matters and he will do anything to ensure it is right. He takes his time to ensure he captures any problems (even to the extent of referring me to the hospital about a mole on my chin), taking extensive x-rays and photos. He then takes his time to explain the findings to me in clear and simple language and what needs to be done to rectify. Not only that he goes on to explain what I should do to prevent problems in the future – taking time to demonstrate good brushing technique, flossing and other cleaning regimes. Colin cares and takes the time to deliver the care, to the extent of destroying his future income. This has then been extended to Jo and the boys. I am not going anywhere else – I wouldn’t trust anyone to get it right like Colin has. Tom’s rugby mouth guard is fantastic – it stays in, he doesn’t chew it or fiddle with it during games because it fits so well.”
